Why visit Brighton?
Why wouldn’t you visit Brighton? Home to arguably the best seafront in the UK, brits enter in the thousands every summer to soak up the culture.
Its popularity first came in the 18th century when George IV visited and loved it. It boasts several historic landmarks, seaside fun and many shops to shop in.
Known for its hippy culture, free spirit vibe and LGBT community, it is easy to get lost in the creative culture. However, it is one of the most open-minded cities in the UK, praised for its diversity.
You will never be short of things to do in Brighton for couples as the city embraces love in all forms. Follow along below to see some of the fabulous options the city offers.
Things to do in Brighton for Couples
So, now we have established what a wonderful city Brighton is. Let’s look at what you can expect when exploring the city.
We would say Brighton is best to visit in the summer so you can take full advantage of the sea. However, that being said, you will still be able to experience Brighton at other times of the year as there will be different things on offer in each season.
The lanes
Let’s start with an obvious choice, but a must-do thing to do in Brighton for couples. Brighton is famous for its cool and edgy area called the Lanes.
The Lanes are packed to the brim with vintage shops, hippy cafes and restaurants, record shops and jewellery shops. It is a vintage shopper’s dream! The cool aspect of the lanes is the narrow streets full of life every weekend.
Treat yourself or your significant other to a vintage piece of jewellery or take a cute date in an independent coffee shop. When we visited the lanes, we just enjoyed getting lost in the streets and watching life go by.
This is also a cheap thing to do in Brighton because you don’t actually have to spend any money and still have hours of entertainment. We believe sometimes the simple pleasures in life are the best things to do as couples as you can spend proper quality time together.
Take a photo in the photo booth- Photomatic.
Taking a photo together to remember your trip is the perfect souvenir! We have made a habit of doing this everywhere we get the chance, as it is such a lovely way to capture a moment.
When looking for things to do in Brighton for couples, Photomatic could not be more perfect. A small photo booth shop in the North Lanes is home to multiple photo booths. With several styles to choose from, you could walk out with more than just one strip of photos.
What we love so much about Photo Booths is that they capture you both in the moment. There are only a few seconds between each photo, so you have to think quickly about your next move! This is such a lovely memory to look back on.
We love looking back at our photo booth pictures and reliving the memory. Photomatic in Brighton gives you the perfect opportunity to save your trip and takes the pressure off taking photos for the rest of the trip as you have one saved.
Royal Pavilion
Probably one of Brighton’s attractions that took us by surprise the most was the Royal Pavilion. If you have not been to Brighton before, this is a gorgeous landmark you must visit as a couple.
Built by King George IV in the 19th century, the building stands out in the grungy city. What surprised us was the Chinese temple architecture that does not match the rest of the town.
The Royal Pavilion is perfect when looking for things to do in Brighton for couples as it sets the most romantic scene. The royal pavilion gardens are the ideal place for a date. Couples embark here every year to take in the beautiful sights of the pavilion and relax in the sun.
Brighton Pier
Now, would it be a trip to the seaside without visiting the pier? Luckily Brighton has a classic British pier for you to enjoy as a couple.
With it being one of the last remaining 19th-century piers, it would be a shame to not take advantage of these cheesy but must-do activities. You will find the classic doughnut and ice cream stand, a small amusement park, and an indoor arcade. We love playing in the arcade and competing against each other to get the most tickets- release your inner child!
The great thing about the pier when you are looking for things to do in Brighton for couples is that you can enjoy it all year round. Granted, it might be freezing in the winter, but you can still go to the indoor arcade or eat at one of the restaurants.
The pier is also home to the restaurant Heston Blumenthal called ‘the spiritual home of fish and chips; the Palm Court Restaurant!
Carnival Games
Now, we have all played some crazy gold and mini gold, and don’t get us wrong, they are really fun. One of our first dates was at ghetto golf in Birmingham. However, carnival games add a whole new level when finding things to do in Brighton for couples!
So, carnival games are actually located in Global, a UV-crazy golf course! So, feel free to check that out, too, as it is super fun! However, we highly recommend carnival games for something a bit different.
Enter a world full of carnival games that will remind you of your childhood. Some games include classics such as limbo, hook a duck and even tarot card reading. Maybe they can predict your future as a couple!
Compete against each other to see who is the ultimate winner! This is so fitting for Brighton as it is like a glorified arcade. Perfect when looking for things to do in Brighton on the weekend with your partner.
i360 Tower
See Brighton from the sky with the one-of-a-kind i360 tower. We had never seen anything like this before coming to Brighton. This is such a romantic thing for couples to do together.
If you have read our rooftop restaurants in London blog, you will know we are a sucker for a view. Unfortunately, with Brighton being relatively flat, there are not many places to take in the view. Therefore, the i360 tower gives you a unique perspective from above the city that can’t be offered anywhere else in the city.
With a similar feel to the London eye inside the pod, it elevates 450ft over Brighton. There are staff on there to help point out famous landmarks you might recognise. What is really romantic about the i360 is the view over the sea.
If you are looking for things to do in Brighton for couples that will impress your other half. Book a ticket for a sunset ride and watch the sun disappear behind the sea. Perfect for a picture together for Instagram!
South Downs National Park
If you are looking for something outside of the city with a bit of greenery, the south downs national park is the perfect place for you.
Also, it is excellent for couples looking for things to do in Brighton with a dog. The option to escape the city is ideal for us as we sometimes bring Henry’s dog midge with us, as seen in our blog about dogs going on tubes.
The most popular spot here is the ‘devils dyke’, a dry chalk valley. It is a popular spot for a lovely walk away from the city. It has some beautiful wildlife, colourful flowers and farm animals.
If you are looking for things to do in Brighton for couples that include a bit of adventure, why don’t you try paragliding? It is a unique experience to enjoy together as you glide over the rolling hills of Sussex. However, it is not for the faint-hearted!
Komedia
Now, suppose you are looking for things to do in Brighton in the evening. In that case, Komedia offers an array of entertainment to suit everyone. With over 700 events a year in music, comedy, cabaret and club nights, you will be sure to catch one during your visit.
Organise the ultimate date night to impress your partner by starting your night at one of the many events here. We personally love a comedy night, as you can tell if you have read our what do it in Liverpool for couples blog!
It has won the Chortle Comedy Award for best venue in the south not once but an outstanding 17 times! If that does not confirm how great this place is, I don’t know what will. This is a quality choice when looking for fun things to do in Brighton for couples.
best romantic restaurants in Brighton for Couples
We have looked at all the fantastic things to do in Brighton for couples, so now let’s look at all the amazing food places!
It wouldn’t be a romantic trip away with your partner without stuffing your faces with delicious food; well, it isn’t for us anyway! So below, we have given you some of our top picks for some yummy food!
Riddle and FinNS The Lanes
It would be rude to come to the seaside and not enjoy some seafood! Seafood is up there as one of our favourite cuisines, and we love it when we have the opportunity to have it fresh.
Riddle and fin have two restaurants in Brighton, but we recommend one on the pier as it has a view of the sea. Henry can’t get enough of this place and would say it is the ideal place for a date night in Brighton.
After all, it is a champagne and oyster bar. This is the perfect place to impress your partner over some oysters.
Rockwater
The classic beachside restaurant; you can’t go wrong!
What we love about rock water is the glass windows and ceiling, allowing you to enjoy both sunrise and sunset. The interior is gorgeous and has various seating options inside and out. The rock water restaurant is cosy in the winter, too, with fires and blankets at the ready.
If you also happen to be a couple into fitness, they sometimes hold HIT classes and yoga sessions. Perfect for a sunrise workout with the view of the seaside!
64 Degrees
If seafood is not your thing or you don’t fancy it, you must try 64 degrees.
The great British menu winner Michael Bremner opened the little restaurant in 2017. Since it has been awarded the number one spot in Brighton’s top 20 in 2016 and 2017!
For a special date night as a couple, we recommend trying out 64 degrees for some award-winning food.
Best bars in Brighton for couples
We enjoy a drink or two (or 3) when we go away for a couples weekend. So we are always on the lookout for suggestions of cool bars with unique drink menus.
We have listed some of our top suggestions for couples in Brighton.
The Tempest Inn
This has to be one of the coolest bars we have ever found. Snuggled into the Brighton beachfront is the tempest Inn. It is in a cave! How cool.
The interior replicates a cave with curves in the wall, candle-lit tables and little nooks with tables hidden away. It contrasts with the rest of the beachfront, but one that is welcomed.
The ultimate themed bar has to be on the list when looking for things to do in Brighton for couples.
Bohemia
A good cocktail is something we look for when looking at things to do in Brighton for couples. Bohemia provides that and more.
It has mirrored walls, comfy sofas, a rooftop terrace and even hidden spaces; there is something for everyone here. Along with creative and fun cocktails, we can’t see a reason to leave this bar!
If you go on a Thursday, it has a Jazz lounge, which is great for a date night.
HarBar
Located in Brighton’s harbour hotel, HarBar is the ideal bar to sit back and relax. With a calm and sophisticated atmosphere, this bar is better for couples looking to enjoy each other’s company after a busy day.
