The Best Spin Class London: Our Review
It is no secret that spin classes dominate London's fitness scene. We are here to find the best spin class London, so you don't have to.
Robyn is the biggest spin class nerd you'll find and loves nothing more than finding new classes in London to try out with friends.
Lucky for Robyn, she lives in London, so she has plenty of time to get through them all. If you have read our 'best outdoor gyms in London 2022 guide', you will know we love fitness.
London is packed to the brim with fantastic spin classes for you to brutally sweat and sing to. Unfortunately, it's also filled with some that you DON'T want to visit.
So turn the music up, switch the flashing lights on, get them legs spinning and find the best spin class London.
What is a Spin class?
Before we dive head first into the best spin class options, let us briefly explain what a spin is.
Developed first by South African racer Jonny Goldberg in the 1980s after an accident racing at night. It is targeted towards an endurance and resistance type of training as a substitute for cycling outside.
Since then, it has become a worldwide fitness class phenomenon with some extra additions. These days it is more than just a sweaty endurance class; it has introduced flashing lights, loud music, and specific movements such as hill climb to the beat of the songs.
Spin is sure to get your heartbeat racing and burns between 400 - 500 kcal per class with an overall full-body workout while you complete resistance training on stationary bikes.
Now let's look at some of the contenders for the best indoor cycling spin class London offers.
The Best Spin Class London: Soulcycle
A cult favourite, SoulCycle, has landed in London. Originating in New York in 2006 and pioneering the way for the new spin craze, Soul Cycle now has 2 studios in London.
Soul Cycle has been described as a cult as attendees quickly get sucked into the company's hype. However, it has an amazing community that is dedicated week in, week out to spinning.
The boutique-style studios provide an intense ride with routines paired with some of the best spin class tracks. In addition, soul cycle classes have an element of motivational spiritual speaking throughout the class to help you get the most out of your class.
Arguably, I would say that Soul Cycle is the most challenging spin class in London as it is hard to keep up with the advanced riders. That being said, it is a friendly environment and welcomes newcomers who hope to join the spinning brigade.
SoulCycle has been named the best spin class London, but let us know if you agree after reading this blog.
Currently, in Soho and Notting Hill, you can get your first class for £16! After that, they are £24.
Psycle
With a catch line of 'a beat and a bike that can transform your body and free your mind', Psycle is a popular indoor cycling class in central London.
Probably the oldest and most commonly known spin class company in London, Psycle. It has insane rhythm-based cardio mixed with strength training to push your body to the limits.
What is unique about Psycle compared to the other spin classes available is the optimal length of the class. Most spin classes in London offer, on average, a 45 min workout. However, Pyscle has upped the ante for all your avid riders by providing anywhere between 45-90 min classes.
This helps you slowly progress over time, so you don't plateau and can continue to push yourself.
Psycle has 4 locations currently at Mortimer Street, Westbourne Grove, Shoreditch and Clapham. Classes start at £22 per person.
Another Space
You will find yourself fist pumping all the way through a spin class at Another Space. With a solely cardio-focused aim, this class will push you to your max.
If you are looking for a high-intensity, high-calorie burner, another space spin class is perfect for you. This spin class is more for those that want to go in, get their heads down, push themselves to the limits and leave feeling accomplished.
The studio changes the playlist every week, keeping regulars on their toes and providing themed rides that keep regulars coming back for more physical activity. The instructors are on hand to ensure you are performing at your best and utilising the 45 mins to its max.
The studios offer protein smoothies and healthy snacks after your ride to replenish you. Perfect for those on the go in the middle of the work day or before busy weekend plans.
Another space has only two studios in Covent Garden and Bank, great for people working in the city. The sessions are only £20 as well!
1Rebel - Top spin class london
One of Robyn's favourite spin classes is 1Rebel. Not that she is biassed, but it is a firm favourite in London and has to be included in this blog.
Expect high fives, 90's club music and spinning disco balls. 1Rebel refers to its riders as 'rebels' and has a real community-like feel. The instructors have really high energy, encouraging you to be pushed to your limits and get a pump on.
It really does feel more like a nightclub than a spin class. The Victoria venue has two floors, meaning you can look down on other riders during the class, giving you a fully immersive experience. In our opinion, it really has taken spin classes in London to another level.
The changing rooms are equipped with showers, towels and products to help you feel refreshed. Ice cold lavender-infused towels can be found in a fridge in the changing rooms, which just shows attention to detail and why Robyn would rate it the best spin class London.
1Rebel has 5 locations across London in St Mary Axe, Victoria, Broadgate, Southbank and Bayswater at £22 per class.
Boom Cycle
We would recommend the boom cycle for people just starting to get into spinning and want to test the waters. Unlike some of the more intense spin classes mentioned above, boom cycle routines are easier to follow.
Boom cycle doesn't have as many mirrored walls as most spin studios which helps first-time spinners feel more comfortable. In addition, the routines are fun and easy to follow to help you enjoy yourself while breaking a sweat.
Boom cycle really encourages a party bike environment enabling you to focus on your own experience and ride.
Boom cycle has studios in Monument, Hammersmith, Waterloo, Holborn and Battersea. On the more affordable side of spin classes at £18.
Core Collective
If you have read our '20 things to do with your boyfriend when bored' blog, you will know training together is a top activity we like to do together. Therefore, the core collective has that competitive energy we enjoy.
The core collective is definitely up there with the more elite world of spinners. The studios are stunning and have state-of-the-art equipment for you to sweat all over.
A true contender for the best spin class London has to offer, as many celebrities and influencers embark upon the studios.
What is impressive about the core collective is the monitors connected to the bikes with different colours indicating how hard you are working. This is such a cool feature as you can monitor your levels and up your resistance. At the end of the class, you will receive your stats, so you can try and beat your PB next time.
The studios themselves are worth a visit with a gorgeous cafe and encouraging staff. You won't want to go home.
Located in Kensington, Knightsbridge and St. Johns Wood (obviously!) The core collective is on the pricier side for a spin class at £23.
Digme Fitness
Digme is definitely not for the faint-hearted. However, Digme has a unique selling point compared to the other spin classes competing for the top spot in London.
Not only is it competing for the top spot, but everyone in the class is in competition with each other. The spin bikes not only track your stats but are displayed on a board for everyone to see. It turns into a real-life cycle race, returning to its roots of proper indoor endurance.
It has displays of different scenery as well to give you an overall immersive experience. In addition, Digme fitness has taken a completely different spin (pardon the pun) on spin classes and provided something for the more competitive people out there.
Located in Blackfriars, Moorgate, Richmond and Fitzrovia at £20 per class.
Terrahale - Note for future best spin class london
Now, this is a rogue choice from us, but one we believe is worth a mention. Purely because we love the story behind it and its unique approach to the newfound craze of spin classes.
Terrahale's whole message is hard work. In return, your hard work powers the lights, music and speakers surrounding you. So unless you like riding in the quiet or dark, you better work!
It utilises all the energy exerted from the raiders during the spin class to help power the studios; pretty cool, right? At the end of the ride, it will tell you how much power you created and how much collectively you have made.
The name Terrahales translates to 'strong earth', and the classes are capped at 6, so make sure you book early to get a spot.
Unlike any other spin class, Terrahale is a super cool concept for you to try. Located in Shepherds Bush, you can get 3 classes for £30! That makes it the cheapest class in this best spin class London review.
Helpful Products To Use At The Best Spin Class London
Now, don't get us wrong, you don't need all the gear to fit in at the spin classes in London. However, below we have listed some products that might be useful for you when starting to spin.
Cycle Shorts
Sounds simple and obvious, but cycle shorts are popular for spin classes. They aren't essential, but they really help when starting out.
We recommend these as they are the best women's bike shorts for spin classes cycling shorts as they are perfect to start with. Cycling shorts are not only more comfortable during a spin class, but they also make you look super cool. So fake it till you make it!
Sports Watch
We are not saying go out and buy an expensive watch on a spontaneous chance. However, if you are into your fitness like we are, then a sports watch is a great accessory.
Robyn has an apple watch and loves the challenge of closing the rings. However, attending the spin classes in central London makes it easier to complete the circles.
Henry, however, prefers a Garmin. Much more sophisticated and with many more settings, this is perfect for those looking to track more than just a spin class.
Water Bottle
One warning when looking for the best spinning class in London is that you will become extremely thirsty.
Keeping hydrated throughout and after the spin class is highly important. We recommend this fantastic water bottle as it is the best for keeping track of how much water you are drinking.
FAQs on the best spin class London
Below we have added some frequently asked questions to help you while you're on the hunt for your best spin class London - if there is anything we've missed, feel free to get in touch and we'll answer you!
Is Spin Class Effective for Weight Loss?
So, spin classes can burn up to 500 calories or more in one class! This can help shed the pounds. However, the only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than eating. So if you eat more calories during the day, then you won't lose weight as such.
We frequently get asked this kind of question, like you'll see on our nutritional blog "does porridge make you fat?"
Is 3 spin classes a week enough?
Spin classes 3 times a week is more than enough! Spin class is ultimately a form of cardio and will help to keep your fitness levels up. However, three sessions a week is some serious hard work!
Is it OK to spin every day?
Like everything, too much of anything is bad for you, just like eating chocolate every day. Your body needs time to recover to fully get the benefits from all the hard work you have put in.
Daily spin classes might just tip you over the edge and actually have adverse effects, hindering your performance in the future.
Is spinning good for belly fat?
Yes, spinning is good to help you lose belly fat. However, spin classes alone won't get rid of belly fat. When losing fat, we can't target specific areas, so it is not as straightforward as a yes answer. However, combined with a calorie deficit, spin classes can assist with losing belly fat.
Is spinning better than walking?
Walking is a great way to burn calories. However, if you want to optimise your time, spin classes might be better than walking. For example, say you only have an hour's lunch break, then a 45-minute spin class will burn more calories than a walk.
Conclusion- so, what is the best spin class London?
So, it might be clear, but if it is not, 1Rebel takes 1st place.
Robyn might be biassed, but the energy and vibes are unmatched. The party atmosphere leaves you feeling on a natural high.
However, that is not to say that the other spin classes aren't suitable. London has some of the best spin classes in the world, and you won't be short of options.
